Transatlantic Connection: EllaLink Cable Revolutionizes Telecommunications between Brazil and Europe.
Translate to English:
The EllaLink submarine cable, a major communication route that directly connects Brazil to Europe, is about to expand its influence in South America with the inclusion of a branch in French Guiana. This promising project, approximately 2,100 kilometers long, will not only connect this French overseas department to Europe, but also pave the way for new interconnection routes in northern Brazil.
This development is the result of a collaboration between EllaLink and SPLANG, a public company in French Guiana dedicated to digital advancement. The extension, built by Alcatel Submarine Networks, will feature two pairs of fiber and advanced optical technologies, ensuring a high-speed, low-latency connection (less than 80 ms) from Cayenne, the capital of French Guiana, directly to Europe.
Currently, the EllaLink cable extends approximately 6,000 kilometers, connecting São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Fortaleza to Lisbon, Portugal. This expansion reaffirms EllaLink’s commitment to connecting distant regions, strengthening the communication infrastructure of French Guiana, and fostering developments in northern Brazil.
Vincent Gatineau, VP of EllaLink, highlights that this project is a milestone for the network and confirms its exceptional technical capacity. Moreover, this expansion is strategic for the Sustainable Integrated Amazon Program (PAIS), part of the Connected North Program, aiming to connect various cities along the Amazon River. Integration through a submarine cable will strengthen the quality of connectivity in the region, promoting economic growth and international collaboration.
French Guiana, known as the home of the Ariane rocket launch platforms, faces connectivity challenges due to its remote location from Europe. The EllaLink expansion, funded by the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program, aims to address this issue by providing a diversified and low-latency connection. This step will ensure French Guiana’s sovereignty in its infrastructure for the space and research sector.
Marie-Lucienne Rattier, president of SPLANG, expressed enthusiasm for the project, considering it a milestone for the digital development of French Guiana and a catalyst for long-term economic growth.
This EllaLink cable expansion project represents a significant advancement for connectivity in Latin America and Europe, opening new possibilities for technological and economic development in the region.
